VARIOUS NON-BEACON RECORDINGS:

As well as recording beacons, I also like to record many of the other unusual signals that I hear, and in this section you will find a number of them. These are not easily categorisable, so they have been included here in this selection of odds and ends. All of these recordings are in .mpeg format, and the file size is displayed alongside each link.

7030 Filters AOR 7030 IF FILTERS 125 Hz/300 Hz Comparison (112kb): - This recording gives an example of how the 125 Hz INRAD IF filter in my AOR 7030+ compares with the poor 300 Hz Collins filter, which is currently being sold by AOR. If you are planning to by a narrow filter for your receiver you might like to think about these results before shelling out your hard earned cash!
Cascaded Filters CASCADED AUDIO FILTER COMPARISON (141kb): - This recording gives an example of how an unfiltered audio signal can be improved by the use of cascaded audio filters. In this example the signal is taken straight from my AOR 7030, and then the MFJ-784B and Timewave DSP-599zx DSP filters are switched in, followed by the Datong FL-3 Analogue filter, and finally the SGC-ADSP Unit. Each unit is then switched out one by one until we are again back at the unfiltered audio. Quite a dramatic improvement I'm sure you'll agree!
Equaliser EQUALISATION OF THE LINE OUTPUT AUDIO (51.1kb): - This recording gives an example of how adding a graphic equaliser to the line output of your audio filter or receiver can boost the audio that is being fed into your PC's soundcard input. This can make a really big difference when using decoding software. This example shows what an equaliser can do to a weak DGPS signal when two channels set to 12db boost are switched in.
