"UNIDENTIFIED" NDB RECORDINGS:

On this page you will find links to recordings of some of the many 'unidentified' beacons, and 'negative' or 'reverse' keyers that are heard on the bands from time to time. If you have any information about any of these, or have a recording of your own that you'd like to post here please do contact me with the details.

BDN BDN - 499.26 kHz (97.4kb): - Another strange UNID, this one seems to appear from time to time at various strengths, it was very strong on this occasion.
BK BK - 470 kHz (84kb): - This one has been around for a long time. I managed to get a bearing on it of 150/330 degrees, and along with the mode A1A type signal this suggests a location somewhere in North Africa.
BK BZ - 367 kHz (84kb): - This UNID was heard at 0335 utc on the 4th of February 2006. The Ident pattern sounds a bit like the Canadian format, but has a slightly longer dash. If anyone knows more about it I would love to hear from you! (54.2kb)
CHA CHA - 520.0 kHz (30kb): - This has been reported a number of times by many European listeners, rough DF bearings may suggest it is yet another North African beacon, possibly Algerian military etc. Any DF bearings on information about this one would be a great help to us.
CM CM - 485.8 kHz (163kb): - This one has a format of 2 x ID plus 6 seconds gap, this could well be a Russian beacon. This has been reported a number of times by many listeners, but as you we haven't been able to find its location. Any DF bearings on this one would be a great help to us.
FA FA - 440 kHz (84kb): - This beacon was heard on 440.0 kHz on the 11th of April 1999 at 0223z. This is the beacon 'DRE' - Drezdenko in Poland sending it's Ident in 'negative' or 'reverse' mode.
Roger's UNID FAULTY KEYER ON 481.2 kHz? (78kb): - This strange signal was first reported by Roger Caird in Dublin, Ireland. It was audible here during daylight hours it wasn't very strong. A rough bearing indicates it's around 110/290 degrees from here, possibly very close to Dublin. If anyone has any ideas about this please let us know!
HNY PAT HNY07 PAT - 499.3 kHz (100kb): - This beacon was heard operating over the New Year period, and this recording was made at 2200 utc on the 31st of December 2006. This occasional beacon is believed to be operated by 'PAT' from the Irish Republic.
IAA IAA - 453 kHz (34kb): - This beacon was heard on 440.0 kHz on the 11th of April 1999 at 0223z. This is the beacon 'CN' - Piestany in the Czech Republic sending its ident in 'negative' or 'reverse' mode.
UNID MB MB - THE MYSTERY BEACON 450.0 kHz (67kb): - This unusual beacon was heard at 2230 utc on the 4th of May 1999 on 450.0 kHz. This appeared to be mode A1A with no offset or tone. It was quite a strong signal into the UK at that time - anyone any ideas about this one?
PAT PAT - 499.3 kHz (100kb): - This beacon was heard operating over the Christmas period again, and this recording was made at 2250 utc on the 25th of December 2006. This occasional beacon is believed to operate from the Irish Republic.
REP REP - 597.5 kHz (67kb): - This beacon was heard operating for several days during August 2001. The bearings suggested the Irish Sea oil & gas fields, possibly from an exploration vessel working in the area?
TFR TFR - 490 kHz (59kb): - This one was heard at 0049z on 490 kHz on the 8th of April 1999. We suspect this may be coming from Algeria, possibly 'Tafaroui'. If you have any further information about this one I'd be pleased to hear from you!
V7B V7B - 1680 kHz (84kb): - This one was heard by Andrew Brade on the 6th of August 2006. Andrew suspects that it may well be located off the coast of Brazil, or one of the Brazilian black beacons, but if anyone can supply any further information about this one we'd be pleased to hear from you!
