EUROPEAN NDB RECORDINGS:

On this page you will find links to a number of sound recordings of beacons that I've been hearing. Some of these are examples of the various types of beacon that can be heard, and other are some of the many 'unidentified' beacons, and 'negative' or 'reverse' keyers that are heard on the bands from time to time. There are also recordings of some of my best 'DX' catches, and I have also now added a collection of my 'local' beacons so that you can hear what they sound like too. Many of the recordings were made on my old SPM-3 selective level meter, which has a very squeaky pitch of around 1500 Hz. I have recently bought an AOR7030 and am currently re-recording many of the files below with a more listenable 600 Hz pitch, and converting them into much smaller .mpegs.

DI2BO DI2BO - GERMANY on 439.9 kHz (124.0kb): - This Amateur beacon operates legally in the NDB, and that is why it is included here, rather than in the HF Beacon section. This recording of the low powered beacon was made at 0145 utc on the 25th of December 2006.
JAN 362 JAN - JAN MAYEN on 362 kHz (60.5kb): - This beacon is best heard when the Geomagnetic Field is quiet, during active periods beacons this far north tend to get absorbed and don't propagate this far south.
MY 337 MY - MYGGENAES, FAROE ISLANDS on 337 kHz (39kb): - Try as I might I can't get a clear recording of this ident due to the powerful 'local' WTN, which operates on the same frequency. Unfortunately, the timing cycle of WTN means that the last dah of MY's ident is always obliterated.
OA 395 OA - AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL, THE NETHERLANDS on 395 kHz (31.4kb): - This Dutch beacon is a regular catch here, though not always as clear as it was on this occasion!
OM 615 OM - GORM PLATFORM, NORTH SEA on 615 kHz (67.1kb): - This beacon is usually masked by an Irish MW Broadcast station, but thanks to them taking it off air OM can now be clearly heard during daylight hours.
QM 458 QM - MACHULISHCHI, BELARUS on 458 kHz (40kb): - This beacon was previously in the 'UNID' section, my thanks go to Arno Gnaedig, DL7WC, who very kindly sent me the details of where this one was located - thanks Arno, much appreciated!
