On this page you will find some of the NDB pictures that I've taken in recent years. At the moment there aren't all that many, in fact most of the shots shown below are from two of the local NDBs - 'WFD' at Woodford in Cheshire on 380 kHz, and 'MCH' at Manchester International (Ringway) Airport. The Woodford shots were taken whilst at one of the Woodford Airshows, which were held at the British Aerospace factory there in June every year (sadly the show is no longer held anymore!, and the MCH shots in September 2006. The first picture shown is one of my good friend and fellow beacon dxer - Stefan Schliephacke from Germany (Stefan was also the utility editor of the East & West Radio Club at that time), and he can be seen here standing in front of the Beacon whilst he was attending the 1998 show with me during a visit to the UK around that time. Stefan can be seen here standing in front of the beacon's 10 metre vertical whip and transmitter housing.
In 1998 I was unable to see what was hidden behind the beacon's 2 metre high wall, but the next year I was better prepared, and held the camera above it so I could get a shot of what was in there. The results are quite interesting, even if they're not very well composed, and whilst this NDB may not look like very much, it always puts out a very good signal signal, and seems to be very reliable.
In July 2006 I was at the Aviation Viewing Area at Manchester International (EGCC), and was trying very hard to get a shot of the NDB 'MCH' on 428 kHz, which is located on the grass verge in between Runways 24 Left and 24 Right, and not exactly easily accessible to beacon enthusiasts. At the time I was trying to get a shot of it for the CLE 81 event, but the camera I had just didn't have a good enough zoom lens to get a clear shot of the antenna mast, and I vowed to return at a later date with a better camera. In September 2006 I made another trip down there again, this time armed with a better camera, and I have included four of the pictures I took below.
